Declaration of Faith

the scriptures:

We believe that scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired by the living God in its original writing, were written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that they are God’s complete and final word of truth and are the supreme, final and only infallible authority for doctrine, faith and conduct.  (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

the godhead:
GOD THE FATHER:

We believe in one God, eternally coexistent as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; that each person of the God-Head is separate and distinct with the same attributes of omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence and is perfect in holiness and righteousness.  (Deut. 6:4, Gen. 1:26, John 1:18, John 4:24)

GOD THE SON:

We believe in the absolute, essential and eternal Deity of Christ, the Son of God, that Jesus as the son of man was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, that He is true God and true man, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who was and is the only sinless human being and the only One Who could be the Savior of mankind.  (Heb. 1:8, Luke 1:35, 1 Timothy 2:5, John 1:1, John 1:14, Matt. 1:21)

PERSON AND WORK OF JESUS:

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ made one final and complete sacrifice for the sins of the world, that in His body on the cross He was man’s representative and substitutionary sacrifice for sin, and through His death and shed blood is God’s only means of redemption from sin.  (Col. 1:20-22, 2 Cor. 5:21, Heb. 9:22, 1 Peter 2:24, 3:18)

god the holy spirit:

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, whose ministry is to convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment and to regenerate the unbelieving, and to sanctify and comfort those who believe in Jesus Christ.  (Matt. 28:19, Romans 8:14-17, 8:26, John 16:7-15)

mankind:

We believe that man was created in the image of God, that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death which is separation from God, that all men are sinful both by nature and by choice.  (Gen. 1:27, 2:7, 3:1-6, Romans 5:12, 3:23)

SIN:

We believe that, because of the universal result of sin, all responsible human beings are dead in the trespasses and sins, are lost and condemned, and this position and condition is changed only for those who trust Christ as Savior and are thus saved from sin and death; that such believers are by the miracle of regeneration born of the Spirit, made spiritually alive and are organically baptized into the body of Christ, which is the only true Church.  (Romans 3:23, John 3:6-7, 1 Cor. 12:12-14, Eph. 2:1)

SALVATION:

We believe that man is totally unable to save himself because of his sinful nature and his guilt in the original sin of Adam.  All men, therefore, deserve eternal punishment.  We further believe that God, who is rich in mercy sent His only Son to be our Savior; for the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, as our substitutionary sacrifice, and all who believe in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood, and furthermore, are eternally saved, in the light of the perfect finished work of Christ.  (John 3:18, 26, 1:12, 5:24, Eph. 2:8-10)

THE CHURCH:

We believe in the Church, a living, spiritual body of which Christ is the Head, and of which all regenerated people are members; and that the local, visible church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, associated together for work, worship and fellowship. We believe that every person is directly responsible to God alone in all matters of faith, and that each church is independent and autonomous and must be free from interference from any ecclesiastical or political authority.  (Romans 14:1-23, Matt. 18:15-18; Gal. 6:1, Eph. 1:22-23, 5:23-27, Col. 1:18-19)

ORDINANCES:

We believe in the observance of the ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper in obedience to the commands of Christ; that Baptism is the immersion of a believer in water as the outward expression of an inward experience of salvation and union with Christ.  (1 Cor. 11:22-30, Matt. 28:19-20, 26:26-30, Romans 6:3-5, Gal. 3:26)

ETERNITY:

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting conscious blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost.  (Matt. 25:41-46, John 5:28-29, 1 Cor. 15:51-57, Rev. 20:1-6)

the second coming:

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and in His present ministry there for us as High Priest and Advocate.  We believe in the personal, visible bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to set up His kingdom upon the earth.  We believe the New Testament teaches in many places the visible and personal return of Jesus to this earth.  It is the duty, therefore, of all believers to live in readiness for His coming and by diligence in good works to make manifest to all men the reality and power of their hope in Christ.  (Matt. 24:42-47, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Cor. 15:3-4, Matt. 28:1-8, Acts 1:3, 1:9-11, Heb. 1:3, 4:14, 7:25)
